The National Council on Teaching Quality (NCTQ) recently released a report entitled Building Teacher Quality in Baltimore City Public Schools. Please join us on July 8th to discuss the report and its implications for the philanthropic community with: Kate Walsh, President, National Council on Teaching Quality; Tisha Edwards, Chief of Staff, Baltimore City Schools; Sonja Brookins Santelises, Chief Academic Officer, Baltimore City Schools; Linda Eberhart, Executive Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning, Baltimore City Schools; Bebe Verdery, Education Reform Director, ACLU of MD; and Roger Schulman, Executive Director, The Fund for Educational Excellence.

Strengthening Neighborhood and School Partnerships
July 21, 2010
, 8:30 AM
- 10:00 AM
For many families, real estate's mantra "Location, Location, Location" has a little to do with a good coffee shop and a lot to do with a great neighborhood school. Unfortunately, stories about good schools are often more hidden than coffee shops making families feel like they have few choices. If community development funders and education funders were more aligned could we promote good schools and improve options for families? If these questions intrigue you, please join us to: consider with fellow funders how we can better leverage neighborhood and education investments, be inspired by neighborhood and community leaders and their creative approaches to partnerships and hear how one funder approached these questions with the Goldseker Neighborhood-School Partnership Program. Please note the earlier start time!

Reflections on the Second Year of Fair Student Funding
July 29, 2010
, 12:00 PM
- 1:30 PM
In 2008, Baltimore City Schools launched its Fair Student Funding (FSF) policy. Under FSF, the responsibility for budgeting for individual schools was shifted from the central administration to the principal at each school.
In February 2009, ABAG convened a group of principals to discuss their experiences with the first year of FSF. On July 29th, these principals will return to ABAG to discuss the second year of managing their schools under FSF. They will be joined by Pam Spiliadis, Executive Director of the Baltimore Urban Debate League, who will discuss how FSF has impacted this community-based organization. We hope you will join us for this unique opportunity to hear about the budgeting process from those involved at school level and to discuss ideas for improving that process in the future.
